specializes in the manufacture of robotic arms and controls for applications where human interface is essential. WSM has developed modern telepresence systems so that man and machine can function as a single entity.  People with only minutes of training can successfully operate our manipulators with confidence.

The telepresence built into our robotics is a sophisticated Force Feedback System which allows the operator to feel a percentage of what the manipulator is feeling. This is critical in applications where high levels of precision are needed such as screwing on a nut or picking up random objects from the bottom of the ocean. Our large industrial manipulator, MAN-MATE (seen above), takes advantage of this principle in order to assist industry in heavy manufacturing. The MAN-MATE is able to respond in a similar motion as the operators arm while providing essential feedback on a continuous basis. This allows a human to perform super-human tasks with ease. Hundreds of MAN-MATE manipulators are currently in use throughout the US and Europe performing critical casting and forging operations for industry. They are extremely reliable and are highly adaptable to performing many tasks.

Also benefiting from telepresence technology is WSM's THE ARM (seen above). This manipulator was designed for exploring the ocean's depths and is employed by the Navy to help support their critical mission. It is a highly dexterous device which was intended to function in harmony with a human's complex anatomy.

WSM is also in the business of Engineering Consulting and has been contracted to design and build systems for some of the most discerning customers. Our engineering team has been called on many times in the past to develop products for a wide range industries. Our customers cover a broad spectrum. NASA enlisted our skills to develop an arm for their space program. Jim Cameron, the director of the famed movie "Titanic," hired WSM to build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for the filming of the Titanic. Our working prototype managed to go further into the ship than any other ROV and with no down time.
